About This Call
Cabrillo Gallery invites artists to submit work exploring the theme of identity. Identity is layered, multifaceted, and built upon a complex spectrum of factors—some we are born with, some impacted by external variables, and some that evolve over time. The portrayal of identity can focus on a single significant aspect or reflect an entire network of associations shaped by familial, social, ethnic, cultural, or other groups; personal or family history; geographical, economic, or social circumstances; political or spiritual belief systems; jobs, lifestyles, or personal interests. Artists are invited to share their representation of who they are within the vast continuum of what it is to be human.
Open to all US artists working in any visual art medium, including video (10 minutes or shorter). Entries must be original work not previously shown at Cabrillo Gallery. Entry fee is $30 for up to 3 artworks. Submissions are due February 6, 2022 at 11:59 p.m. MST. Acceptance will be announced February 14. Artwork delivery by mail must arrive no later than February 25, or in-person delivery is accepted at the gallery on February 28. Selected artworks will be exhibited at Cabrillo Gallery from March 7–April 8, 2022 (gallery closed March 21–25). The juror is Pauli Ochi, founder of OCHI Projects, a contemporary art gallery in Los Angeles.
Submissions must include a brief statement about each artwork, title, dimensions (inches H x W x D), price, year completed, and website/social media handles if available. Professional quality image or video files are required. Technical quality of images or videos is crucial for review; Cabrillo Gallery reserves the right to exclude work if technical quality is exceedingly poor.
