Where We Meet

The Virginia Museum of Contemporary Art (Virginia MOCA) invites artists from Hampton Roads to submit artwork for a juried exhibition titled "Where We Meet." This is a Main Gallery exhibition and marks the final show in Virginia MOCA's current building before the transition to a new facility at Virginia Wesleyan University. The exhibition celebrates the transformative power of community through art and highlights the creative voices of the region, exploring the many ways art connects us to each other, to place, and to the stories we share.

Artists may respond to one of four curated prompts: "Where We Remember" (how memory shapes identity), "Where We Love" (love in all its forms), "Where We Grow" (how landscape shapes us), or "Where We Dream" (visions for the future). Selected works will be exhibited from October 1, 2025 through January 11, 2026. The exhibition will be juried by Virginia MOCA's exhibitions staff and local experts. While there are no cash awards, this exhibition offers a unique opportunity to be part of a historic moment in the region's creative legacy.

Eligibility: Artists must be 18 or older and currently reside in Hampton Roads (Virginia Beach, Norfolk, Chesapeake, Portsmouth, Suffolk, Newport News, Hampton, Poquoson, Williamsburg, and the counties of Gloucester, Isle of Wight, James City, Mathews, and York). Work must have been created in 2020 or later. Most media and styles are welcome, including traditional to contemporary approaches. Submit a maximum of two artworks via CaFÉ with a brief artist statement (200 words max) connecting the work to a theme prompt. Entry deadline: May 26, 2025. Acceptance notifications will be sent by email no later than June 30, 2025.
