Where Energy Meets Matter: Exploring the Frontiers of Science

Where Energy Meets Matter invites artists to explore the dynamic interplay of art and science, celebrating cutting-edge research and innovation at the Frederick National Laboratory for Cancer Research and throughout Frederick. This exhibition seeks work that captures the essence of energy and matter—whether through physics, biology, or the unseen forces that shape our universe.

The Frederick National Laboratory for Cancer Research produces significant advancements in science, utilizing world-class technology at the Advanced Technology Research Facility and in labs on Fort Detrick. Scientists there produce images revealing biological structures at the atomic level, improve genome editing, create cancer diagnostics from liquid biopsies, model human organ structure and function in miniature dishes, and develop digital twinning—dynamic virtual representations of physicality. This exhibit explores how scientists can influence artists and artists can influence scientists.

Open to artists 18+ working in all media, including painting, sculpture, photography, new media, installation, and interdisciplinary practices. Submit up to 2 pieces per artist in JPEG or PNG format (or links for video/interactive media), along with a 250-word artist statement describing how your work relates to the theme and a resume/bio (up to 2 pages). Submissions undergo curatorial review. Application Deadline: November 5, 2025. Notifications sent November 10.
