About This Call

When Vision Refuses to Explain seeks to suspend the habit of interpretation in an experimental field without text — no artist statements, no conceptual descriptions, no thematic directives. This exhibition invites artists to participate in a direct encounter between artwork and viewer, free from linguistic mediation. Within this space emptied of explanation, artworks reclaim their agency as viewers confront the silence, ambiguity, and uncertainty of vision.

Artists may submit one to twenty works in any medium — including painting, sculpture, installation, video, photography, sound, performance, or digital formats. No written materials are required or accepted, and artist statements or conceptual texts will not be included in the selection process. All works must be original and completed within the past three years.

The open call is international and open to artists of all ages and backgrounds with no restrictions on medium, theme, or nationality. Collaborative projects are welcome, and works should be suitable for physical display in a gallery or museum context. Entry fee is $35.00 with an additional $5.00 media fee. Exhibition runs February 1-26, 2026 at Sasse Museum of Art.
