About This Call
A juried ceramic exhibition at Epperson Gallery of Ceramic Arts open to all artists 18 and over residing in the USA. The theme is "What Lies Beneath," defined as surreal work marked by the intense irrational reality of a dream, having the disorienting, hallucinatory quality of a dream. The gallery is looking for sculptural work in clay that fits this definition—work born in the subconscious space between dreams and consciousness where the unreal can manifest itself in a fantastical way.
Juror Lisa Clague is an internationally known sculptor whose textural ceramics arouse wonderment and otherworldliness. Her work examines inner journeys influenced by her dreams, often featuring animals and hybrid figures inspired by prehistoric art, Neolithic figurines, and archaic Greek and Egyptian forms. Clague received her BFA from the Cleveland Institute of Art and MFA from California College of Arts and Crafts, and has exhibited at the Macon Museum of Art, DeCordova Museum & Sculpture Park, and other major institutions.
Submit up to 3 original works not previously shown at Epperson Gallery. All submissions must be made of clay and are open to both functional and sculptural work. Entry fee is $40. Awards: First Place $1,500, Second Place $1,000, Third Place $500.
