About This Call
The 7th Biennial Western Cast Iron Conference invites submissions of up to five works for Juried Student and Professional Cast Iron Art Exhibitions. Exhibitions take place October 5-9, 2022 at the University Galleries in the W.M. Lee Center for the Fine Arts at the University of South Dakota in Vermillion, South Dakota. The submission deadline is September 10, 2022 at 11:59 p.m. MDT. Entry fee is $25.00.
Artwork should include iron as sculpture, image, photograph, print, pigment, or other media. Work can incorporate additional media and should express individual personal concept while celebrating craft, process, and creative design. Two-dimensional and three-dimensional works are considered. If submitting digital video or audio, share as a YouTube or Vimeo link; artists must supply their own hardware for screening. Images must be labeled with artist's last name, category (student or professional), and number (e.g., lastname_student_1.jpg). Images must be no smaller than 1200 pixels in one direction at 72 dpi. There are no scale requirements, but artists must supply detailed installation instructions. Works must be ready to hang with specific specialty hardware provided if needed.
The exhibition is open to conference participants. Student category is open to those currently enrolled in educational institutions. Professional category is open to those not currently enrolled in educational institutions. Artists are responsible for shipping to and from Vermillion or hand delivery. Shipped artwork must arrive by October 3, 2022; hand-delivered artwork is due by October 5, 2022. Pre-paid return shipping labels must be included. Awards include Juror's Best of Show and WCIAA Board Member's Award in both Professional and Student categories. Opening reception is 6-8 p.m. Friday, October 7, 2022. All artwork will be collected Sunday, October 9, 2022, 9:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. Contact: Amy Fill, Director, University Art Galleries, [email protected].
