West Michigan Art Competition 2020

The 34th Annual LowellArts West Michigan Art Competition is open to visual artists 18 years and older who reside in one of 25 eligible Lower West Michigan counties: Allegan, Barry, Berrien, Branch, Cass, Calhoun, Clare, Clinton, Eaton, Gratiot, Ionia, Isabella, Kalamazoo, Kent, Lake, Mason, Mecosta, Muskegon, Montcalm, Newaygo, Oceana, Osceola, Ottawa, Saint Joseph, and Van Buren. Artists may submit one original work completed in the last three years in any visual art medium. Commercial reproductions, including giclée prints, will not be accepted. Traditional print media, photography, and digital art must be from a limited edition. Two-dimensional entries may be no larger than 62 inches in any direction including frame width. Three-dimensional entries must fit through a standard door frame and be no larger than 62 inches in any direction, and must be easily handled by two people. Only works not previously exhibited at LowellArts are eligible.

Submissions are made digitally through the CaFÉ website. For two-dimensional pieces, submit one image. For three-dimensional pieces, two images showing different views of the same piece may be submitted. The entry fee is $35 ($25 for LowellArts members and students over 18 with college ID). Online entries are accepted January 2 to February 1, 2020 at 11:59pm EST. Artists will be notified of acceptance on February 12 via email. Accepted work must be hand-delivered February 20-22 or shipped to arrive by February 21. The exhibition runs February 29 – April 8, 2020, with a reception and awards ceremony on Thursday, March 5, 6-8pm. Five cash awards of $500 each will be presented. Juror Jim Nawara is Professor Emeritus of Painting & Drawing at Wayne State University in Detroit. Artwork must remain on display for the duration of the exhibit. LowellArts requires a 30% commission on all artwork sold. Accepted work may be picked up April 9-11.
