West Michigan Art Competition

The 37th Annual LowellArts West Michigan Art Competition is open to visual artists 18 years and older who reside in one of 25 eligible lower West Michigan counties: Allegan, Barry, Berrien, Branch, Cass, Calhoun, Clare, Clinton, Eaton, Gratiot, Ionia, Isabella, Kalamazoo, Kent, Lake, Mason, Mecosta, Muskegon, Montcalm, Newaygo, Oceana, Osceola, Ottawa, Saint Joseph, and Van Buren. Artists may submit one original work completed in the last three years that has not been previously exhibited at LowellArts. Artwork in any visual art media is accepted, though commercial reproductions and giclée prints are not eligible. Traditional print media, photography, and digital art must be from a limited edition. Two-dimensional entries may not exceed 62 inches in any direction including frame width. Three-dimensional entries must fit through a standard door frame and be no larger than 62 inches in any direction; only artwork easily handled by two people will be accepted.

The entry fee is $35 ($25 for LowellArts members and students over 18 with a college ID). Entries must be submitted digitally through the CaFÉ website by February 1, 2023 at 11:59pm MT. Applicants must submit 2-4 digital images of the same piece: one full image of the work, one image with a common household object for scale reference, and optionally two additional images showing details or alternate angles. All entries require title, media, and dimensions information.

Accepted artists will be notified on February 24. Hand-delivery of accepted work is March 15-18, 2023 at LowellArts, 223 W Main St, Lowell, MI 49331. Shipped works must arrive by March 17 with prepaid return shipping labels. The exhibition runs March 25 – May 6, 2023. Five equal cash awards totaling $3,000 are presented. Artwork must remain on display for the duration of the exhibit. LowellArts requires a 30% commission on all artwork sold. Accepted work may be picked up May 9-12, 2023.
