About This Call
West Michigan Area Show 2020 runs April 10 – July 12, 2020. Eligibility is open to all artists 18 years or older residing in the following Michigan counties: Allegan, Barry, Berrien, Branch, Calhoun, Cass, Eaton, Ionia, Kalamazoo, Kent, Muskegon, Ottawa, St. Joseph, and Van Buren. Only original work of the artist's own design, completed within the last 2 years, should be entered. Digital media, 2-D, and 3-D works in any medium will be accepted. Work may not exceed six feet (72") on any side and must be on view the entire duration of the exhibition. A maximum of 3 works may be submitted. Entry fee is $20 for the first work and $15 for each additional work.
Specific award categories include: Art Quilts (must be free-hanging, unframed, fabric-based compositions with max dimensions 90"h x 72"w); Mixed Media/Intermedia; Printmaking (must illustrate a hand-worked element); Book Art (hand-made books, hand-made paper, letterpress); Calligraphy (must include calligraphy or hand-lettering); Glass (over 50% glass); and Portage Community (must respond to theme "A Natural Place to Move" and be available for display in Portage City Hall Sept 18 – Oct 30, 2020). Awards total over $7,000, including a $1,000 Helen Sheridan Memorial Grand Prize.
All wall-hung works must be framed with proper hanging devices. Works accepted into the exhibition must be received no later than 4 p.m., March 25, 2020. Entries may be hand-delivered to the KIA May 22, 24, and 25 or shipped via UPS or FedEx with return postage. Artist notification is March 11. Reception is Thursday, April 9, 5:30 - 7:30 p.m., with awards announced at 6:30 p.m. Pick up of accepted art is Sunday, July 12 at 4:55 p.m. and Monday, July 13, 9:00 – 5:00 p.m. All work is submitted at the owner's risk; the KIA will not insure works during transit or while on its premises.
