About This Call
The Edward A. Dixon Gallery presents a three-month exhibition opening in May 2021 titled We're Doing It ALL Wrong™. The exhibition seeks to create dialogue and spark ideas related to the many ways humanity continually fails itself. Artists are encouraged to submit work that captures or comments on a tradition, system, practice, institution, or anything they see that needs repair or removal that has existed in this condition for far too long. Another goal of the exhibition is to find signature pieces of artwork that, while keeping to the exhibition's theme, define our current period in history from the artist's viewpoint.
Each artist must submit original artwork (no reproductions except for digital artwork or photography). Artwork submitted should speak to the exhibit's title and description. Artists are asked to choose an additional category for their artwork: Gray (topic exists in a gray area) or Black & White (clear cut issue with almost universal agreement of its need for change). In-person gallery hours will be complemented by a virtual tour of the exhibition viewable online.
All artists 18 years and older are eligible to enter, including international artists. Artwork must be created in 2020 or 2021. Each artist may submit one artwork for an entry fee of $25 and up to two additional pieces at $15 each. 2-D wall art must not exceed 50" in width and 50" in height, must be framed if appropriate, and be wired and ready to hang. 3-D artwork/sculptures must be less than 36" depth, 36" width, and 60" height. Entries will be judged by Ed Dixon, owner and curator of the Edward A. Dixon Gallery, along with two other industry professionals. Awards include Best in Show ($500), First Place Theme ($250), and Signature Artwork ($250). Accepted work may be hand delivered on Sunday, April 4, 2021 from 12-6 pm or shipped by UPS, FedEx, DHL, or other pre-approved carrier, arriving by April 9, 2021. Artists are responsible for all shipping costs and must include prepaid return packaging. Artwork may be picked up on August 1, 2021 from 12pm-6pm. Artists agree to allow submitted artwork to be available for sale with a 20% commission on all sales going to the gallery.
