About This Call
The Ernest G. Welch School of Art and Design Gallery at Georgia State University seeks works in all media, including performance, for an exhibition titled DEATH IS THE DESTINATION, taking place from August 16-September 21, 2012. Artists are encouraged to interpret the theme of death broadly and may address a range of issues related to death such as transition, ritual, permanence, coping, exploitation, mythology, the death industry, and so on. The exhibition is presented in concert with the Death Year symposium at Georgia State University, a multidisciplinary event with participants from fields as diverse as modern languages, gerontology, music, political science, and others. The exhibition will be curated by Nancy Floyd, professor of photography; Ruth Stanford, associate professor of sculpture; and Christina West, assistant professor of ceramics.
A $20 entry fee is required, allowing artists to submit up to 5 entries. A resume and artist statement are also requested of each artist. Georgia State University student artists may have the application fee waived by requesting the coupon code via email at [email protected]. Artists are responsible for shipping costs to and from the exhibit. Works need to arrive ready to hang/install and must be representative of the images submitted. All work will be insured for its full value while on site. The gallery will provide publicity and a reception on September 6th during the downtown Atlanta First Thursdays Art Walk.
Deadline for submissions: April 22, 2012. Accepted works need to be delivered: August 6th-9th, 2012. Contact Nancy Floyd at [email protected] with any questions.
