About This Call

We the People: Political Art in an Age of Discord is a national juried art exhibition that invites artistic expressions of the political. Established and emerging artists are encouraged to submit artworks that engage with a variety of political themes and viewpoints, from the local to the global. Drawing, painting, pastel, printmaking, photography, digital art, sculpture, fiber, and mixed-media works are eligible. The exhibition seeks 2-D and 3-D artworks as well as small installations that can be accommodated in the intimate galleries of Barrett Art Center's landmark 1840's Greek Revival townhouse in Poughkeepsie, New York, located two hours north of New York City.

For 2-dimensional artwork, work cannot exceed 40 inches along any side, including the frame. Framed work must use plastic or Plexiglass; frames over 12" with glass will not be accepted. For 3-dimensional artwork, installation art, sculpture, and other works must fit within 72 inches high by 30 inches wide by 30 inches deep. Work cannot be hung or installed from ceiling. Accepted work must be delivered to Barrett Art Center between June 19-21, 2017. The exhibition runs July 8 – August 12, 2017, with an opening reception on Saturday, July 8, 2017, from 3:00 – 6:00 p.m.

Eligibility is open to artists 18 or older. All work must be original in design, concept, and media, and must have been completed within the last three years. Entry fee is $35 for up to three works for non-members ($30 for members); additional works may be submitted at $5 per work, maximum eight works total. Submit 3-8 images and up to 2 videos. Three cash prizes and two honorary awards will be selected by the juror and announced at the opening reception. All selected artists will be notified via email by Friday, April 28, 2017. Barrett Art Center retains a 40% commission on sales for non-members and 25% for members.
