About This Call
ArtFest Fort Myers seeks to commission one high-impact sculpture that conveys the message of "as a country we are overflowing with trash and recyclables." The sculpture should inspire viewers to reconsider what they dispose of—whether it is trash, recyclable, or best suited for repurposing or reuse.
The sculpture will be installed outdoors in downtown Fort Myers beginning January 28, 2019 and completed by February 3, 2019. It will be on display during ArtFest Fort Myers on February 1, 2 & 3, 2019, and remain in downtown Fort Myers for one month post-festival. The artwork will be used in promotional material for We Are Overflowing 2020. All materials visible to the viewer must be repurposed, recycled, reclaimed, or reused materials; structural elements may be new (but recycled preferred). The sculpture must incorporate a recycle dumpster supplied by the City of Fort Myers, though artists may choose not to use one if preferred. The selected artist will receive a $5,000 stipend and must be in Fort Myers from January 27 to February 4, 2019.
Artists must submit proposals including professional qualifications, an illustration of the concept, a narrative description (500 words maximum), description of structural integrity, photographs of prior installations (up to 5 each for re-use genre and public art installations if applicable), and references. Submissions open August 2, 2018 through CaFÉ (CallForEntry.org). Artists may submit up to 4 proposals. The submission deadline is September 7, 2018 at 11:59 p.m. MDT. Jury results will be emailed by September 19, 2018. This call is open to all residents of the United States over the age of 18, regardless of race, nationality, gender, sexual orientation, national origin, age, religion, or other characteristics. Artists working in any media are eligible.
