Waynesboro Street Art Festival Mural Call

The Shenandoah Valley Art Center is seeking artists for the Waynesboro Street Art Festival, a public art mural project taking place May 16, 2025, in the downtown district. Selected artists will create murals live during the festival weekend at three locations: Bear Creek Outdoor Living (180 Port Republic Road), adorn. and Pyramid (141 N Wayne Ave and 139 N Wayne Avenue), and Shenandoah Valley Art Center (126 S Wayne Avenue).

Artists will be chosen based on their portfolios, artistic style, and how well their proposals align with mural themes reflecting the cultural, historical, and community values of the downtown area. The selection process is managed by a Standards Committee including representatives from Destination Downtown Waynesboro, Waynesboro Tourism and Economic Development, Virginia Street Arts Festival, Shenandoah Valley Art Center, building owners, and community stakeholders. Selected artists will receive a stipend to cover materials and their time. The festival will feature live music, collaborative art activities, interactive games, guided mural tours, shopping, dining, and gallery and museum visits.

Eligibility is open to artists aged 18 and older; collaborative team submissions are allowed with one identified lead artist. Submissions must include a portfolio of previous mural or large-scale artwork, artist bio and statement, a preliminary concept sketch (color and to scale) based on provided themes, and a proposed materials list. All work must be original designs; reproductions, copyrighted materials, or previously completed works will not be accepted. The entry fee is $10.00, with submissions due by January 31, 2025, at 11:59 p.m. MST.
