Water Stories 2023

Water Stories 2023 is a state-wide juried exhibition at the Long Beach Island Foundation of the Arts & Sciences inviting artists who live or work in New Jersey to submit original artwork created within the last two years. The juror is Dr. Tricia L. Bloom, Senior Curator of American Art at the Newark Museum of Art.

The exhibition explores the theme of water through varied mediums and visual manifestations. Eligible mediums include drawing, painting, hand-pulled prints, photography, mixed media, wall-hung crafts, digitally created work, and video. Two-dimensional work will be wall-hung in the gallery (should not exceed 18 inches into space and preferably occupy no more than approximately 4 feet by 4 feet). Three-dimensional work unable to be wall-hung will be displayed outdoors on the nature trail, subject to the elements. Unconventional mediums are welcome if they contain no hazardous or toxic materials. Artwork larger than 24" x 24" selected for outdoor display must be installed by the artist. The outdoor space is unsecured and artwork will not be insured by LBIF.

Eligibility: Artists 18 years and older residing or working in New Jersey. All work must be for sale with retail value not exceeding $7,500. Entry fee is $35.00 for up to 4 entries (non-refundable). Submission deadline is May 12, 2023 at 11:59 p.m. MDT. The juror will select approximately 40 artworks. Exhibition dates are July 10 to August 14, 2023, with reception and awards on July 15, 2023 from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Awards include $500 first prize, $100 second prize, $100 third prize, and three honorable mentions. LBIF retains a 40% commission on all works sold during the exhibition. Artists are responsible for delivering and reclaiming their artwork. Artwork remaining on campus more than five days after the exhibition closes becomes property of LBIF unless special arrangements are made.
