About This Call

BSA Space seeks proposals for an upcoming design exhibition exploring water's role in today's built and natural environments, in Boston and beyond. The exhibition should address topics such as sea level rise, stormwater management, water safety during construction, sanitation versus contamination, infrastructure including transit, life support, and recreation. Proposals should explore what water means in today's era of widening social chasms and climate change, including questions about water ownership, access, safety, and environmental impact.

This call is open to individuals, teams, or firms. Applicants must have demonstrated experience curating a museum-quality exhibition. Proposals should not showcase the work of a single firm or individual. BSA Space will consider proposals exploring a wide variety of design and urban-related topics, and also considers traveling exhibitions that have formerly been exhibited at other venues.

Submissions must include a two-page exhibition proposal describing the working title, central narrative, interpretive format, proposed programming, and potential impact. Additional materials required: sample introductory wall text (50 words), up to five renderings or sketches, portfolio of recent work, resume/CV (three pages maximum), ideas about traveling the exhibition to other institutions, and a proposed budget. Proposals will be reviewed by the Foundation's Exhibitions Committee and must elevate public awareness of design's power as it relates to urban conditions including climate change, environmental sustainability, urban planning, housing, and social, economic, and cultural equity. The exhibition component must be executable in the community and include professionally curated content with a mixture of 2- and 3-dimensional media.
