About This Call
Washington Sculptors Group invites submissions for Sculpture NOW 2010, a juried exhibition of three-dimensional sculpture, installations, and new media. The exhibition runs January 5 – February 12, 2010 at Edison Place Gallery, 702 8th Street NW, Washington D.C. 20001. The exhibition is juried by Ryan Hill, Curatorial Research Associate for the Hirshhorn Museum & Sculpture Garden.
Eligibility: The exhibition is open to members of the Washington Sculptors Group. Artists who are not already members may join WSG by paying annual dues of $45 ($15 for full-time students). WSG members must have paid their 2010 dues to be eligible. Membership information is available at www.washingtonsculptors.org or by calling 202-686-8696.
Submission Requirements: Artists may enter 1-2 works with a maximum of 4 digital images per artist (up to 2 images per artwork). Video and new media artists must submit still images and may also submit DVDs (maximum 2 DVDs, 10 minutes duration each, formatted for Macintosh). Entry fee is $45. Submissions must be made through the CaFÉ web service by Monday, November 16, 2009. Video and new media DVDs should be mailed to: Washington Sculptors Group, Attention: Sculpture NOW 2010, P.O. Box 42534, Washington, DC 20015.
Work Specifications: Accepted work includes three-dimensional freestanding sculpture, wall-hung pieces, lightweight ceiling-hung sculpture, installations, and new media. The gallery has 8-foot ceilings, a loading dock with standard double doors, movable walls, and track lighting. No pedestals or audio/visual equipment will be provided. Wall work must be compatible with the Arakawa System with hooks rated for maximum 40 lbs. All accepted work must remain on display for the full exhibition duration. Artists are responsible for delivery and installation on January 3, 2010 (10 am – 2 pm) and de-installation on February 13, 2010 (10 am – 2 pm). WSG will insure work while on site but not during transportation. No commission is taken on sales.
Notification to artists will be sent by Friday, December 11, 2009. An artists' reception is scheduled for Friday, January 8, 2010, 6-8 pm.
