Warwick Pool Public Art Project

The City of Alexandria, Virginia invites established professional artists throughout the United States to submit qualifications for a public art project as part of the Warwick Pool renovation. The selected artist or artist team will join an architecture and engineering design team to provide public art integrated into the renovation of the existing pool, pool deck, pool house, and interior fence. The artist will work collaboratively with the Design Team to develop a cohesive public art proposal, hold at least one public meeting to gather community input, and oversee fabrication and installation. Project completion is scheduled for May 2017.

The artist fee is $10,000, with a budget of $40,000 for fabrication and installation. Warwick Pool is located at 3301 Landover Street in the Del Ray neighborhood and features a 25-yard pool with diving well, children's wading pool, bathhouse, community room, and picnic areas. Artists must demonstrate artistic merit, experience working with communities on engaging artwork, experience collaborating with city staff and design professionals, and probability of successful project execution. Applicants must submit an artist statement describing their general approach to public art, a letter of interest (maximum two pages) describing their interest in the project and relevant experience, and a resume (maximum four pages). Three semifinalists will receive a travel honorarium to visit Alexandria, tour the site, and interview with the Project Task Force. Selected artists must sign a contract with the City and obtain general liability insurance. Deadline: Sunday, March 27, 2016, 11:59 p.m. Mountain Standard Time.
