About This Call
The Buffalo Bills Public Art Program seeks to commission new wall-based artworks for the permanent collection at the new Highmark Stadium in Orchard Park, New York. Wall-based/wall-mounted artworks may include traditionally framed artworks, drawings, paintings, photography, textiles, mosaic or tile wall hangings, mixed-media or assemblage, digital art displays, artwork utilizing electricity or digital components, and relief or wall-mounted sculptural works (under 4" depth). Pieces will be located in public spaces on concourse and suite walls throughout the stadium.
Artwork themes should welcome visitors and locals to Highmark Stadium and embody moments in Buffalo Bills football history, representations of Buffalo NY, local landmarks, fan engagement, traditions, or other meaningful representations in realistic or abstract forms. Artwork must follow requirements to avoid interference with adjacent seating, monitors, concessions, wayfinding, and ADA regulations. Frames should be designed to withstand occasional contact from the general public and include hang-ready frames with shatter-resistant plexiglass supplied by the artist. Archival materials (indelible inks, stable materials and primers, UV resistant plexiglass, sealed topcoat, etc.) are required due to exposure to natural light, weather, temperature changes, air circulation, and high-traffic from visitors and fans. Installation shall not interfere with functional lighting or safety requirements.
Applicants should submit a proposal including sketches/rendering images and description, locations/sizes of interest, materials, and budget breakdown. Proposals may include a single artwork or multiple artworks as a cohesive group. Any use of AI-generated artwork must be notated in the proposal. Commission budgets range from $10,000 to $25,000 each, all-inclusive of stipends, design fees, travel, fabrication, supplies, material costs, labor, permits, delivery/shipping, installation, and related expenses. Finalist artists may only be selected for one location, to be curated by the Buffalo Bills Public Art Program team. Applications must be submitted through CallForEntry.org by April 21, 2025 at 11:59 p.m. EDT. Work sample requirements: 5-10 images and 0-2 videos (5-12 total samples).
