Walking the Line

Walking the Line is an exhibition at GearBox Gallery in Oakland, CA, running August 2–25, 2018. The gallery invites entries in any medium exploring the theme inspired by Johnny Cash's "I Walk the Line," with references to the line as a boundary, intermediate position, or visual/conceptual element.

Eligibility is open to artists over 18 living or working in Northern California. Entries must be original work created between 2014 and 2018, in any media, with no size limitations provided works fit through a standard doorway. Submit up to 3 entries per application with a non-refundable $35 entry fee. Work samples may include up to 3 images, 3 audio files, and/or 3 video files (minimum 1 total sample required). All entries must include title, medium, year, and dimensions. Accepted work must be hand-delivered to the gallery and must be framed and ready to hang or include display means for audio/video. The juror, Drew Bennett, will make final determinations on accepted work.

Awards include a Juror's Award featuring the artist as a guest in a future GearBox Gallery exhibit, and a GearBox Gallery Award offering exhibition in the Inner Room. Artwork must be for sale with a price indicated. If sold during the exhibition, the artist receives 60% of the sale price. If sold within three months after the exhibit as a direct result of the gallery display, the artist agrees to pay GearBox Gallery a 25% referral commission. Selected artists must deliver work in person on July 29, 2018 (noon–4 pm) and pick up by August 26, 2018 (noon–4 pm). Notification of selections will be sent by email on July 10, 2018.
