Visualizing the Word

Visualizing the Word is a national juried exhibition seeking ekphrastic work that can include artwork inspired by literature or including literary work in the theme of the artwork. The exhibit is open to all visual mediums. The juror is Jon West-Bey, an independent curator and museum consultant based in Washington, DC, and Lecturer in the Museum Studies Program at Johns Hopkins University.

The exhibition takes place at Cade Art Gallery, John A. Cade Center for Fine Arts, Anne Arundel Community College, 101 College Parkway, Arnold, MD 21012. Exhibit dates are November 26 through January 24, with a reception on Tuesday, November 26th from 5-7pm. The entry fee is $25. Submit up to 3 digital files (1-3 images and 0-2 videos). Artwork drop-off is November 12 (contact to arrange time); shipped artwork must be received by November 12. Artwork pickup is January 31 (contact to arrange time).

All accepted work must be ready to hang or display. Two-dimensional work must have a braided picture wire on the back. Fragile media should be under plexiglas. Installation art must be prepared by the artist or have instructions that are easy to follow. The gallery reserves the right to refuse any piece that is improperly presented. All works are insured against physical damage or loss from receipt through designated pickup time. Artists are responsible for shipping costs both to and from the gallery.
