About This Call
The Fine Arts program at IU Southeast requests submissions for the Visual Thinking exhibition, a juried exhibition featuring works that explore drawing as a tool for thought. Drawing provides an efficient strategy for conceiving ideas and conveying them. This exhibition will highlight drawing's versatility and usefulness in both cognitive and creative process. Preparatory drawings, process drawings, and finished works will all be considered for inclusion. Each submitted work must be accompanied by an artist statement describing that work's drawing process and purpose.
Accepted work will be exhibited in the Ronald Barr Gallery at Indiana University Southeast from August 28, 2019 through September 26, 2019. All accepted artists will be featured in an exhibition catalogue, available online. The exhibition will be juried by the board of the Thinking Through Drawing Research Network, including Dr. Angela Brew, Dr. Michelle Fava, Dr. Andrea Kantrowitz, Emily Sheehan MFA, and Emma Vilina Falt MFA.
This call is open to artists residing in the U.S. and internationally. Please note that to avoid significant shipping costs and logistical challenges, accepted international work will be presented digitally on monitors for the duration of the exhibition. For accepted US-based works, costs for shipping and return of physical works will be the responsibility of the artist. There is no entry fee. Submission deadline is June 10, 2019 at midnight EST. The maximum number of submissions per artist is 5. Accepted applicants will be notified by no later than July 5, 2019. Unframed works on paper will be hung using magnets or binder clips provided by the gallery. All framed work must use Plexiglas, except hand-delivered work less than 24" x 30". Framed work must be wired or have a cleat attachment and be ready for hanging. A label must be affixed to the back of the work indicating which end is the top and including artist name, title, medium, and dimensions.
