About This Call
The Bernalillo County Arts Board seeks artists or teams of artists for preliminary designs for two sculptures to be commissioned for the Vista Grande Community Center. The sculptures should relate to each other and be placed at the entrance to the Vista Grande Community Center on Madera Rd. and in the landscaped parking lot area outside the Community Center.
The artworks may address the natural surroundings, the historical context of the site, or the uses of Vista Grande Community Center. The Arts Board anticipates proposals that create a dialogue between the two pieces and inspire curiosity. Craftsmanship and the artist's consideration of existing artwork and surrounding views are desirable proposal elements. Materials must withstand freeze/thaw and extreme weather conditions, with a minimum lifespan of 20 years and low routine maintenance requirements. Public safety is a concern, and artwork should not pose a threat to injury. $120,000 is available to commission the two works of sculpture.
Eligibility is open to artists residing in New Mexico, Arizona, Texas, Colorado, Utah, and Oklahoma. Submissions must include an artist's statement (not to exceed 1,000 words), a letter of intent (not to exceed 1,000 words) describing ideas and proposed techniques, up to 3 preliminary design sketches, up to 7 digital images of past work, and an annotated image key with full name, numerical listing, title, media, dimensions, and year of completion for each image. Minimum 3 images required; maximum 10 total samples.
