Visiting Artist of Color Residency 2026

ASLD's Visiting Artist of Color (VAC) Residency is a 7-month program for visiting artists who identify as Black, Indigenous, and/or person of color (BIPOC) or whose work connects with BIPOC communities. The program aims to increase visibility and provide resources to support historically marginalized artists. The residency runs from January 15 to August 15, 2026, and selected artists are expected to be in Denver for the full duration.

The residency offers a 900 square foot dedicated studio space at ASLD, a monthly stipend of $4,000, and the opportunity to lead workshops, lectures, and community engagement programs. The residency culminates in a solo exhibition at ASLD's gallery. Each residency is tailored to the selected artist's expertise and discipline.

Applicants must submit a resume/CV, artist statement, 5-10 JPEG images (300 DPI, 1920 x 1920), and answers to application questions about their artistic practice, career goals, commitment to JEDIA (justice, equity, diversity, inclusion, and accessibility), and connection to underrepresented communities. The program is open to national and international artists 21 years of age or older who demonstrate strong work complementing ASLD's faculty, with priority given to artists from outside the Denver metro area. Artists from any visual arts media are welcome, and alumni of ASLD's Visiting Artist series are eligible. Entry fee is $25.
