Vision: Black and White

Black Box Gallery announces a Black and White juried group photography exhibition. The show seeks a diversity of photographic works exploring black and white photography's classic, nostalgic, and dynamic qualities. Contemporary photographers are invited to engage with the tradition of luminous, well-crafted, and thoughtfully composed imagery while bringing their own modern voice, visions, and aesthetics.

Juror Todd Johnson is the founder and director of Black Box Gallery, holding an MFA in Photography from the San Francisco Art Institute. He has served as a portfolio reviewer for Photolucida, Critical Mass, Dodho Magazine, and Blue Sky Gallery, and has worked as an independent curator for exhibitions at institutions including Linfield College, Gallery Homeland, The Waiting Room Gallery, and others. Johnson has 25 years of experience in arts education and administration.

Entry deadline is July 12, 2023. Exhibition dates are August 1-20, 2023. Twenty-four photographs will be selected for exhibition at the gallery, with an additional 30 photographs selected for the online gallery annex. All 54 photographs will be included in a catalog available for purchase on Blurb Books. Entry fee is $40. Photographers may submit 1-5 images. Black Box Gallery provides free printing, matting, and framing for all exhibitions using archival inkjet printing on premium luster photo paper. Selected photographers must provide high-resolution TIFF or JPEG files. Exhibition prints are kept in flat files after the show for future promotion and sale. Black Box Gallery takes a 50% commission on all sales, with 50% going to the photographer. Artists may request that prints not be for sale and be used for exhibition and promotion only. All rights remain with the photographer, and no sale or printing will occur without prior consent.
