Virginia is for Artists

Virginia is for Artists 2020 is a state-wide exhibition showcasing artwork from artists throughout Virginia. The exhibition runs October 2 - November 1, 2020, and will be displayed both in the gallery and online on the Virginia Beach Art Center website.

All media are welcome. The exhibition is juried by Anne Garnett Wolcott, PhD, Adjunct Professor at Old Dominion University. Total prize money is $675, including Best in Show ($200), Award of Excellence ($100), Award of Merit ($75), Art Educator Special Award ($100), and four Honorable Mentions ($50 each). The opening reception and awards presentation are October 2, 6-8 pm, with a livestream of the awards presentation at 7 pm on The Artists Gallery at the Virginia Beach Art Center Facebook page.

Eligibility: Artists must reside in Virginia. All work must be original, produced within the last five years, and not previously exhibited at VBAC. All styles and aesthetics are considered. Artworks must be for sale and appropriate for all viewers. Artists must submit an interpretative statement (limit 700 characters) with their work. Up to three artworks may be submitted. Entry fee is $35 (non-refundable). Works cannot exceed 40 pounds. Hanging works may not protrude more than 12" from the wall and must be wired for hanging. Free-standing works may not exceed 24" in length or width. Gallery wraps are accepted only if the image continues onto all four sides.

Shipped works must arrive September 23-28, 2020. Hand-delivered works are accepted September 26, 27, (28 by appointment), or 29. Artists are responsible for all shipping costs and must provide pre-paid return labels. The Virginia Beach Art Center retains a 35% commission on sales; artists receive 65%. Payment for sales will be made within 30 days of the exhibition closing. Artists may pick up works in person November 3, 10 am - 5 pm, or arrange return shipping.
