About This Call
The Virginia Highlands Festival Juried Arts and Crafts Show takes place July 24 - August 2, 2026, in historic Abingdon, Virginia. This established fine arts and craft show accepts both contemporary and traditional submissions and offers artist access to over 22,000 patrons from multiple states over the 10-day celebration. Booth locations are available on the Barter Green and on the Martha Washington Inn lawn, with both 5-day and 10-day spots available. The show has been voted Blue Ridge Country Magazine's Best Arts and Craft Show of 2022-2025, Sunshine Artist 200 Best Shows of 2022-2025, and Virginia Living Best Festival 2024-2025.
Only original craft or art made by hand by the artisan submitting the application is eligible. Categories include Basketry, Candles, Clay, Decorative Glass, Decorative Metal, Drawing, Etching, Fiber-Wearable, Fiber-Non-Wearable, Gourmet Foods, Jewelry, Leather, Mixed Mediums, Painting, Paper, Photography, Sculpture, Soap, and Wood. Work based on recycled, repurposed, or salvaged materials must be clearly noted. No buy-and-sell items, hand-assembly of bought items, imports, or commercially manufactured work will be accepted. The artisan whose work is represented must be present at the show.
Applications are processed through Zapplication with a $25 non-refundable jury fee. Applications received before March 15, 2026 will be juried on March 16 and notified by March 17. Payment must be received by March 20, 2026 to be listed in The Highlander magazine (30,000 printed publications distributed regionally). After March 20, applications are approved on a rolling basis depending on available space and dates. Four jurors score submissions on a scale of 1-4. Cash prizes are awarded for Best in Show, Judges' Choice, 2 Merit Awards, and 2 Honorable Mentions (non-category specific). Artisan amenities include free loading/unloading assistance, complimentary bottled water, booth sitting, on-site parking at Martha Washington Inn, and free electricity at Barter Green locations.
