About This Call

The Village of Palmetto Bay seeks an artist or team of artists to create a public art piece for the Coral Reef Old Cutler Traffic Circle, located at the intersection of SW 152 Street and Old Cutler Road. This is a prominent main road within the village used by residents and visitors to access local schools, natural and historic sites, and daily destinations. The intersection provides connectivity from northern and eastern Miami-Dade County to south Miami-Dade.

The Village desires artwork that signifies its commitment to the environment, particularly given its proximity to Biscayne Bay. The art piece should foster a sense of place within the community, enhance the aesthetics of the traffic circle, and reflect the theme of environmental stewardship. Artists are encouraged to utilize sustainable materials whenever practical. The artwork should be appropriate for a public space, resemble the beauty of Palmetto Bay, and provide a focal point for this significant intersection.

This opportunity is open to all artists—emerging and established, individuals and artist-led teams—working with a wide variety of mediums who have completed projects for private clients, public agencies, or grassroots/community projects. Prior public art experience is not required. Women, minorities, and veterans are encouraged to apply. The project budget ranges from $100,000 to $135,000. Contract approval is expected in Fall 2024 with installation in Spring/Summer 2025. Applications must include a one-page artist statement, a two-page CV/resume, and 6-10 digital images of completed works with title, medium, dimensions, date, current location, and 1-2 sentences of explanatory text. Contact Andrea Candelaria, Sustainability & Resiliency Planner, at 305-259-1250 (dial #2) or [email protected] for more information.
