About This Call

The Stockton Arts Commission is seeking artists with public art experience to create a public art installation for Victory Park. Artists may submit proposals individually or as a team. Artists living in or with experience working in California are encouraged to apply, with local preference given to artists living in San Joaquin County and the City of Stockton.

The completed project budget will be between $100,000 and $175,000, inclusive of art design, fabrication, delivery, storage, installation, all state and local permits and fees, prevailing wage, travel, artist fees, and direct costs. The artwork must be durable and suitable for outdoor conditions including moisture, sun, high winds, extreme weather, and vandalism, with a minimum 20-year lifespan. Artists must demonstrate successful design, fabrication, and installation of public art in the past 5 years, along with placemaking experience, project management experience, experience working with community groups and municipal agencies, and understanding of California Department of Industrial Relations requirements and prevailing wage obligations.

Proposals are due January 21, 2021 at 2:00 PM via callforentry.org. Submissions must include a completed application, letter of interest (max 2 pages), professional resume (max 2 pages per artist), presentation of up to 10 digital images of previous public art projects, proposal design and statement of approach (1 page), visual representation/conceptual sketch, detailed line-item budget, and three professional references. The selection process includes three rounds: Round 1 reviews all submissions based on artistic merit and proposal quality; Round 2 selects up to three finalists who receive a $1,000 stipend to develop a maquette and refined proposal; Round 3 brings the finalist to the Stockton Arts Commission and City Council for final approval. All submitted materials become the property of the City of Stockton.
