About This Call

The Veterans Memorial & Support Foundation of Los Gatos is seeking applications and renderings for a site-specific veterans memorial to be erected on the grounds of the Los Gatos Town Civic Center. The foundation invites applications from professional individual artists, architects, designers, or artist teams with previous experience or interest in outdoor public art installations.

The memorial will be located in the Civic Center Plaza Square in downtown Los Gatos on East Main Street, a high-visibility site adjacent to Town Hall, Police Dispatch, Town Library, Arts & History Center, and other civic buildings. The project has a minimum budget of $750,000, contingent upon community donations. Up to three semi-finalists will be selected and awarded a $2,000 honorarium each. The commissioned artist or artist team will be required to work with the foundation and community stakeholders to manage the memorial's development and construction.

Initial submissions must include project descriptions, project illustrations (drawings, renderings, and optional model), artist/team member profiles, portfolio samples, commission references, and maintenance guidelines. Applicants must be 18 years of age or older and practicing in the United States. If applying as a team, a team leader must be designated for communication and notifications. Finalists will be required to provide evidence of license, bonding, and proof of insurance, and must participate in community engagement events including at least two public meetings and two community forums. Design considerations include day and night visibility, color, light, interactive components, shaded seating, appropriate lighting, low maintenance, and optional water features. The memorial must celebrate freedom and pay tribute to U.S. military service members, veterans, and public service first responders.
