Veterans Memorial Cemetery of Western Colorado - Public Art RFQ

The Veterans Memorial Cemetery of Western Colorado is seeking qualifications from artists interested in creating an exterior public artwork for the cemetery in Grand Junction, Colorado. The project budget is $12,500, which covers all costs including artist fee, structural engineering, insurance, materials, fabrication, transportation, installation, and project documentation. Semifinalist artists will receive a $1,000 honorarium for design preparation. A site visit is required.

The Art Selection Committee seeks artwork that honors military service and military history, with historic focus on veterans' service from WWII to current, and is inclusive of all six military branches. The artwork should match the cemetery's design aesthetic and add to the peaceful, contemplative environment for veterans, their families, and the general public. The committee will consider artistic excellence, thematic appropriateness, appropriateness to the facility's aesthetic and natural landscape, resistance to wear and vandalism, and ease of maintenance. Artists from the Western Slope and artists who are veterans or military service members are highly encouraged to apply.

Applicants must be Colorado residents. Submissions must include 6-8 digital images of previously completed artworks, a current résumé, and a statement of interest of 250 words or less. All applications must be submitted through the CaFÉ online platform by May 10, 2021 at 11:59 p.m. MDT. There is no application fee.
