About This Call

Colorado Creative Industries seeks to acquire public art through direct purchase of existing artwork for the Colorado Department of Human Services' Veterans Community Living Center at Homelake (VCLC) in Monte Vista, Colorado. The total funding available for artwork is $33,500, with individual artworks up to $5,000 considered for purchase. This opportunity is open to Colorado artists only. Funding is provided by the state of Colorado's Art in Public Places Program.

The Veterans Community Living Center at Homelake is situated on a 25-acre site one mile east of Monte Vista in the San Luis Valley. The facility was established in 1889 as the Colorado Soldiers' and Sailors' Home and has served veterans from the Civil War through current conflicts. The Center's natural surroundings and historic buildings provide scenic views of Homelake and the mountains. The Public Art Selection Committee seeks multiple artworks for display in the Nursing Home building that speak to the site's unique history and function as a nursing home for veterans and their families. Artworks should contribute to a comforting and restful environment. Due to building design, 2D works are the main type considered, though sculptural works are acceptable if wall-mounted and do not protrude more than 4 inches. Works of all media are considered, including paintings, photography, mixed media, and fabric. Artworks of various sizes are welcome, with preference for works 24"x36" or larger.

The Selection Committee will evaluate artist location (must be Colorado-based), thematic relevance, artistic excellence, technical competence, scale, material, form and content, and ease of maintenance. Artists residing in the San Luis Valley and/or artists who are veterans are encouraged to apply. Selected artworks must be delivered to the Veterans Community Living Center in Monte Vista and must be ready to hang and framed if applicable, with frames in good condition. Applications close November 8, 2017. Selection panel will meet December/January 2017-2018, with notifications and artwork delivery scheduled for January/February 2018. Submit applications through the CaFÉ system with 1-3 digital images per artwork (up to 3 artworks total), a resume, and a statement of interest of 500 words or less. There is no application fee.
