Verdant Southwest: 14 Perspectives

Open Studios, a nonprofit arts organization in Boulder County, Colorado, seeks art for the themed exhibition Verdant Southwest: 14 Perspectives. The exhibit will be shown at the Open Studios Gallery, 2027 Broadway, in downtown Boulder, from May 9 – June 23, 2024.

Artists from Colorado, New Mexico, Arizona, and Utah are invited to submit one to eight works of 2-dimensional art that form a cohesive grouping for one of 14 individual gallery walls (8 ft h x 4 ft w). Each grouping should occupy approximately 6 ft h x 40 in w, including space between works. Artists may interpret the theme freely; art ranging from abstract to representational in any 2-dimensional medium will be considered. Artwork will be reviewed as a group and selected based on quality, artistic voice, and overall cohesiveness. All artwork must be properly framed with wire hangers (no sawtooth or exposed glass edges). Gallery-wrapped paintings and photographs may be displayed unframed if edges are finished and wired. Photographs printed on metal are allowed with built-in hangers.

All artworks must be offered for sale. Open Studios retains a 50% commission on sold work. The application fee is $37. Fourteen artists will be selected to participate and will pay an additional $50 hanging fee. Participating artists may provide up to 3 additional pieces as back stock. Artwork must be received by May 21, 2024. The exhibit opens to the public May 23, with an opening reception May 30. Unsold artwork may be picked up by appointment July 15-20. Payments for sold artwork will be made by August 5. Eligibility: artists 18 and older from Colorado, New Mexico, Arizona, and Utah.
