About This Call

The Chattahoochee Handweavers Guild announces an international exhibition of art that references and/or uses fiber, fiber techniques and fiber technologies in innovative ways. The exhibition seeks work that reflects the forward trajectory of textiles within a twenty-first century intersection of conceptual innovation, new and old techniques and materials, coupled with traditional attention to craftsmanship. Juror Jon Eric Riis is an internationally known contemporary fiber artist whose work is held in collections including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Art Institute of Chicago, The Minneapolis Institute of Art, Indianapolis Museum of Art, The Cleveland Museum of Art, The New York Museum of Art and Design, and The Renwick Gallery of the Smithsonian American Museum of Art.

All US and international artists working in fiber media are eligible to enter. Entries must have been completed between April 2013 and the entry deadline. Pieces must be of original design, executed by the entrant, and one of a kind. Artists currently exhibiting in Flight Patterns are ineligible due to space constraints. Two entries per artist are permitted. Work may not exceed 9 feet in height or 50 lbs in weight. Jpeg image files are required for each work entered, including a full view plus one additional detail image (maximum 2 images per entry). Image files may be color corrected but not enhanced; editing is limited to cropping and adding or modifying a solid background of white, black or gray.

Entry fee is $35. Awards include Best of Show ($600), Second Place ($400), and Third Place ($200). The exhibit will be held at Ernest G Welch Gallery, School of Art and Design, Georgia State University, 10 Peachtree Center Avenue, Atlanta, GA 30303. Notification of acceptance: April 1-7, 2015. Entries due: May 1, 2015. Exhibit opens May 14, 2015 with opening reception June 4, 2015. Exhibit closes July 31, 2015. Work will be returned by August 30, 2015. Artists are responsible for shipping costs, insurance during shipping, and return postage. The gallery will insure work displayed during the exhibit. Artists may sell their work through the show; a 20% commission goes to the Guild.
