About This Call
Professional artists and artist teams are invited to submit letters of interest and qualifications for the creation of site-specific artwork(s) at the Utah Tech University General Classroom Building in St. George, Utah. Utah artists and artists of historically underrepresented populations are strongly encouraged to apply. This project is a partnership of the Utah Public Art Program of the Division of Arts and Museums, in association with the Division of Facilities Construction and Management (DFCM) and Utah Tech University.
The 120,000 square foot, four-story General Classroom Building will serve as the southeast anchor for the campus and house the College of Humanities and Social Sciences departments along with General Education classes. The building will also feature the Institute for Race, Gender, and Identity; the Humanities Center; the Institute of Politics and Public Affairs; the Institute of Social Research; student-driven creative spaces including The Southern Quill, Route 7 Review, and The Sun News; language labs for ESL and ASL; a Marriage and Family Therapy counseling suite; and the Center for Diverse Minds. The Art Selection Committee is seeking artwork that is engaging, inclusive, and welcoming, and that understands the value of Utah Tech's human-centered, open-inclusive-comprehensive-polytechnic mission. Potential artwork locations include an interior 2-story lounge, interior 2-story central concourse, west entry exterior plaza, and southeast exterior.
Budget: $166,000 is available for all related expenses including artist fees, fabrication, insurance, shipping, travel, installation, and documentation. Entry deadline: June 5, 2023 by 11:59 p.m. MT. Work sample requirements: 2-10 images and 0-2 videos (2-12 total samples). International artists are eligible.
