About This Call
Professional artists and artist teams are invited to submit letters of interest and qualifications for the creation of site-specific artwork at Utah State University's Gardner Learning and Leadership Building in Logan. Utah artists and artists of historically underrepresented populations are strongly encouraged to apply. This call is open to artists and artist teams residing in the Intermountain West, including Utah, Arizona, Colorado, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, and Wyoming.
The Art Selection Committee has selected a 29-foot-long interior wall on the 2nd floor above the learning stair for artwork integration. This wall is located in an important gathering space connecting the first and second floors, serving as a focal point above a large wood timber learning stair. The artwork should highlight the space and guide the viewer's eye upward. A budget of $85,000 is available for all related expenses including artist fees, fabrication, support structures, insurance, shipping, travel, lighting, installation, documentation, and other costs.
Applications must include up to 10 images and/or up to 2 video files of previous work, a CV or resume, and a Statement of Interest. The deadline for receipt of preliminary materials is February 16, 2024 at 11:59 p.m. MDT. Semi-finalists will be notified by February 27, 2024 and asked to present full proposals in May 2024. All semi-finalists will receive an honorarium to help defray proposal development costs, which will be applied toward the final commission amount. Artwork completion is targeted for March 2025 with project substantial completion in April 2025. Applicants must have a U.S. Tax ID Number and cannot be Art Selection Committee members or staff of Utah Arts & Museums or MHTN Architects. For questions, contact Hannah Barrett at [email protected] or visit publicart.utah.gov.
