About This Call
Request for qualifications from artists and/or artist teams interested in creating site-specific artwork(s) for the new Utah State University Clinical Services facility in Logan, Utah.
The new Clinical Services Building for USU's College of Education and Human Services will be a state-of-the-art facility for adults, adolescents, and families to receive clinical services. The building will centralize existing clinics currently scattered throughout campus, creating an interdisciplinary environment. The four-story, 100,000 square foot building is divided into two wings—one containing academic/research functions and one containing clinical spaces—connected by transparent bridges with a large open-air courtyard between them. This courtyard, named the "Healing Garden," will serve as a multifunctional space for patients and a gathering space for students and faculty. The main lobby contains a gallery designed to host exhibitions every few months. The building also includes early childhood education classrooms, distance education classrooms, specialized therapy rooms, a nursing simulation lab, a hydrotherapy pool, gymnasium for physical therapy, audiometric booths, a café, a teaching kitchen, and an underground parking garage.
The Healing Garden/courtyard space is intended to be a restorative space for clients. A "visual corridor" has been designed to pass through the building from north to south, including through the courtyard space, with materials and uniformly spaced plantings that extend north/south. The courtyard will provide intimately scaled spaces and nooks for small gathering and conversation, connected by a meandering pathway. The space may include sculptural elements in the landscape or as part of walls, including living walls. Plantings will be selected for all seasons, including winter. Natural materials will be the primary palette for walkways and other textures. Water will be incorporated for both reflection and sound. The project vision emphasizes creating a warm, inviting, and soothing environment integrated with elements that inspire health and wellness, responsive to diverse needs and abilities.
Work sample requirements: 1-6 images. Eligibility: National. Entry deadline: 7/8/16 at 11:59 p.m. MDT.
