About This Call
The Utah Public Art Program, in cooperation with Weber State University Tracy Hall Science Center, is accepting qualifications from artists or artist teams interested in creating integrated public art for this new facility on the campus in Ogden, Utah.
The Tracy Hall Science Center is one of the largest architectural building projects Weber State University has undertaken on its main campus. The building has been designed with two distinct massing elements: a sweeping curve that creates a prominent statement at the north end of the bell tower plaza, and two laboratory tower wings on the west side. Key locations within the floor plan include the lobby at level one, the convergence of level 1 and level 2 at the entry stair, the atrium serving as the social heart, and the building entry at the north end of the bell tower plaza. It is the desire of WSU for the Tracy Hall Science Center to serve as a learning tool, demonstrating concepts of science through building design, public art and theme integration.
The vision for the Tracy Hall Science Center is to utilize a blend of art and science to engage building visitors and users. The Steering Committee has identified three elements that inform the building theme: Patterns, Place, and Aesthetics. The public art commission may reflect the beauty of the place and the sense of wonder that accompanies discovery. The selected artist(s) will work collaboratively with the project committee to develop and design work(s) that contribute to the learning environment. Work samples should include 1-6 images. Eligibility is open to national applicants.
