About This Call
Salt Lake Community College in partnership with the Utah Division of Facilities Construction and Management and the Utah Arts Council's Public Art Program requests resident Utah artist or artist team qualifications for the creation of site-specific and/or placement of existing artwork(s) for the Salt Lake Community College Bruin Fitness Center being constructed on the South City Campus in Salt Lake City, Utah.
The Bruin Fitness Center is a newly planned 17,000 square foot building (with approximately one-third basement storage) featuring a multipurpose room and strength training space. The Art Selection Committee is open to various media including work that may be embedded into the design of the architecture. Possible sites for the commission include exterior locations on or around the building facing Kensington and/or Edison Streets, a long concrete gentle sidewalk ramp curving up to the entry, large pre-cast concrete walls on all four sides of the building, and the main lobby (wall, air space, glass curtain wall, floor, etc.). The Committee is open to suggestions from finalists.
A budget of $21,000 is available for all related expenses of this public art commission(s) including artist fees, fabrication, insurance, shipping, travel, installation, documentation, and other related costs. This project is open to professional artists and artist teams living in Utah. The Art Selection Committee members and immediate families, employees or consultants of GSBS Architects, Utah Arts Council Staff and Board, and the contracted construction company are not eligible. Submissions must include a minimum of 1 and maximum of 6 images. Applications may be submitted online at www.callforentry.org or by compact disc/DVD. The deadline is 8/14/15 at 11:59 p.m. MDT and is not a postmark deadline.
