About This Call

Mountainland Technical College (MTECH) in partnership with the Utah Division of Facilities Construction and Management (DFCM) and the Utah Arts & Museums' Public Art Program requests qualifications from artists and/or artist teams interested in creating site-specific artwork for the new Mountainland Technical College campus in Payson, Utah. The goal of this artwork is to serve as an exterior beacon for the new facility, welcoming visitors as they approach the west entrance.

MTECH is the largest and fastest-growing technical college in Utah, offering programs in over 50 career and technical education fields. The new Payson Campus is designed to fulfill growing demands for technical training and education in southern Utah County. The Art Selection Committee encourages artists to consider the students and faculty spending time in the new facility and create work that reflects this diverse audience. Artists may consider the full suite of training offered at MTECH, including Apprenticeship, Health, Technology, Service, and Trades programs. The Committee is seeking current Utah residents or artists with rich connections to Utah who are punctual, responsive, and reflect the College's perspective and its students.

A budget of $166,000 is available for all related expenses including artist fees, fabrication, insurance, shipping, travel, installation, documentation, and other costs. The selection process includes a preliminary review of qualifications, with semi-finalists selected to present full proposals on April 18, 2023. All semi-finalists will receive an honorarium to help defray proposal development costs, which will be applied toward the commission amount for the awarded artist(s). Project substantial completion is targeted for Fall 2024. Applicants must be U.S. residents with a Tax ID Number and are ineligible if they are Art Selection Committee members, immediate family of committee members, board members, or employees of Method Studio or the Utah Division of Arts and Museums. Submit applications online via CallForEntry.org with up to 10 images and/or 1 video file of previous work, a CV or resume, and a Statement of Interest.
