About This Call
Request for qualifications from interested artists or artist teams to create site-specific artwork(s) or propose appropriate existing artwork for the new Utah Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control Facility in Taylorsville, UT.
The Art Selection Committee intends to commission new artwork or purchase existing art. Proposed artwork may draw inspiration from the community of Taylorsville, the surrounding community, the services offered by DABC, the architecture, or the Utah landscape. The Committee has identified exterior areas as potential sites for this commission and is open to artist-suggested sites appropriate for their work and the architecture. The facility's architecture is composed primarily of glass and EIFS, with metal panel and fiber cement board accents. Any proposed existing work must include full costs for presentation, shipping, engineering, assembly, installation, and any necessary structural alterations.
The project budget is up to $35,000 for all related expenses including artist fees, fabrication, framing, insurance, shipping, travel, installation, and documentation. This project is open to resident American and legal resident artists/artist teams residing in the Western United States: Utah, Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, New Mexico, Nevada, Oregon, Washington, and Wyoming. Art selection committee members and immediate families, board members and employees of Jacoby Architects or Utah Division of Arts and Museums are not eligible.
Required application materials include: a letter of interest (maximum 5000 characters), visual support materials (up to 10 still images and/or up to 3 video files for a total of 10 samples maximum), and CV/resume (up to 3 pages). The Selection Committee will review submissions and select semi-finalists to present full proposals on July 29, 2020, including budget and timeline. All semi-finalists will receive an honorarium to help defray proposal development costs, which will be applied toward the commission amount if awarded. The building project completion and move-in is scheduled for May 2021.
