About This Call

Bridgerland Technical College in partnership with the Utah Division of Facilities Construction and Management and the Utah Arts & Museums' Public Art Program requests qualifications from artists and/or artist teams interested in creating site-specific artwork for the new Bridgerland Technical College Health Sciences Building in Logan, Utah.

The Health Sciences Building will contain approximately 75,000 square feet of space for programs training registered nurses, practical nurses, medical assistants, pharmacy technicians, medical office personnel, nursing assistants, dental assistants, and phlebotomists. This modern building is located at a high-traffic intersection with high-tech, purpose-built classrooms, labs, and support spaces. The building features maximum windows on both south and north facades allowing sunlight throughout, and framed views of the mountain ranges. The Selection Committee invites artists to consider the role of therapeutic milieu while interpreting the building's architecture. The artwork should incorporate the natural light employed throughout the building, moving away from a sterile medical environment to a healing space for students. Potential sites for artwork integration include: the airspace of the Main Lobby (preferred location) and the exterior Southwest or Southeast Plaza.

$166,000 is available for all related expenses including artist fees, fabrication, engineering, insurance, shipping, travel, installation, documentation, and other costs. Eligible applicants are resident US citizens or legal resident artists/artist teams; Utah artists are strongly encouraged to apply. Applications must be submitted online via CallForEntry and include up to 10 images and/or up to 2 video files of previous work, a CV or resume, and a Letter of Interest. Complete application packages must be received by September 16, 2022 at 11:59 p.m. MDT. The Selection Committee will review submissions and select semi-finalists to present full proposals on November 30, 2022. All semi-finalists will receive an honorarium to help defray proposal development costs, which will be applied toward the commission amount for awarded artist(s). Project substantial completion is targeted for July 2023.
