About This Call
The Utah Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control, in partnership with the Utah Division of Arts & Museums, is calling for artists to create site-specific artwork or propose existing artworks for new DABC facilities in Syracuse and Herriman, Utah.
For the Syracuse project, potential sites include the exterior plaza area directly outside the main entrance, upper interior spaces of the vestibule or glass curtain wall (for works that do not obscure view), and one interior wall above the wine racks measuring approximately 6' x 30'. The Committee asks that any work placed in front of the opening consider sight lines, egress and light from the interior out. The Herriman project is still in design phase with approximately 13,600 SF including sales, storage, offices and loading dock. Finalists will receive updated design information as it is developed. Proposed existing works must include full costs for presentation, shipping, engineering, assembly, installation, and any structural alterations necessary.
Budgets are up to $25,000 each for all related expenses including artist fees, fabrication, framing, insurance, shipping, travel, installation, and documentation. This project is open to resident American and legal resident artists/artist teams residing in the Western United States (Utah, Arizona, California, Colorado, Idaho, Nevada, New Mexico, Montana, Oregon, Washington, and Wyoming). Submissions must include a letter of interest (maximum two pages), up to six JPEG images (1920 pixels maximum on longest side, 72 dpi, under 2MB file size), a PDF document identifying each image with title, year, medium, dimensions and artist name, and a professional resume. Movie files of no more than 3 minutes may be submitted if work cannot be documented well with still images. Submissions may be made online at www.callforentry.org or via labeled PC-compatible thumb drive sent to: Jim Glenn - Attention: DABC, Utah Public Art Program, 300 S. Rio Grande, Salt Lake City, UT 84101. The Selection Committee will review proposals and select semi-finalists who will present full proposals including budget and timeline on February 26, 2018. Final selections will be made from semi-finalists.
