About This Call

Call for interested artists residing in the western US to create site-specific artwork or propose appropriate existing artwork for two Utah Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control facilities in Salt Lake City, Utah.

The Utah Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control is relocating and constructing new stores in Salt Lake City to improve access and service. As part of this effort, the UDABC has made a commitment to include public art and contemporary architecture. The Art Committee intends to commission new artworks or purchase existing art. Artwork may draw inspiration from or derive context from the community of Salt Lake City and surrounding areas, the services offered by DABC, the architecture, and/or the Utah landscape. For the Downtown Project, three interior and one exterior possible sites have been identified. For the Foothill Project, two exterior and one interior site have been identified. Any proposal for the exterior courtyard must accommodate visitor access and egress. Proposed existing work must include full costs to cover presentation to the committee, shipping, engineering, assembly, installation, and any structural alterations necessary.

Eligibility: Open to resident American and legal resident artists/artist teams residing in the western United States, including Utah (strongly encouraged), Arizona, California, Colorado, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, Oregon, Washington, and Wyoming. Art selection committee members and immediate families, board members and employees of Jacoby Architects or Utah Division of Arts and Museums are not eligible. Work sample requirements: 1-10 images and 0-1 video (1-10 total samples). Downtown SLC project budget: up to $64,000. Foothill Boulevard SLC project budget: up to $23,600. Budgets include all related expenses including artist fees, fabrication, framing, insurance, shipping, travel, installation, and documentation. Selection timeline: Committee reviews applications June 23, 2021; finalist presentations August 12, 2021; Foothill Project substantial completion July 2022; Salt Lake City substantial completion October 2022. Finalist honorarium will be applied toward the commission amount for awarded artist(s).
