About This Call
The Utah Arts & Museums Public Art Program requests qualifications from artists and/or artist teams interested in creating site-specific artwork(s) for the new Utah State University facility in Brigham City, Utah. The deadline for materials is May 22, 2015.
The new 50,000 square-foot Academic Building is designed to be unique, iconic, and timeless, serving as the cornerstone to the community and front entrance to campus. The design incorporates historical, cultural, agricultural, and geological features of Brigham City. The building's four distinct wings are defined by horizontal striations representative of ancient Lake Bonneville's shoreline characteristics. The center structure represents the community anchor, pure in form and monolithic in stature, identifying with the peaks of the Wasatch Mountains. Key design concepts include: Presence, Community Campus Design, Civic, Intuitive, Clear Way-Finding, Strong Sense of Place, and Paying Homage to Historic Site Uses.
The building includes a main lobby serving as a central node and interior landmark, a multipurpose room for community events with a mobile stage and partition walls, classrooms and lecture hall designed for various teaching methods, and study nooks throughout. Exterior materials are selected to stand the test of time while complementing the surrounding context of Brigham City.
Work sample requirements: 1-6 images. Eligibility is national. Contact: [email protected].
