About This Call

Request for qualifications from artists and/or artist teams interested in creating site-specific artwork(s) for the new Utah State University Biology and Natural Resources Facility in Logan, Utah. The project is connected with the remodel of the S.J. and Jessie E. Quinney Biology-Natural Resources Building, located on USU's Logan campus east of the Welcome Center and north of the new Life Sciences Building. The remodel will provide updated class labs, a lobby and student study space, as well as updated teaching and research facilities to meet current ADA and fire safety codes and updated seismic and HVAC systems.

The USU College of Biology and Natural Resources Selection Committee invites artists to consider the student and staff pursuits in the study of biology and natural resources while honoring the original structure and interpreting the new architecture of this 2019 remodel. Potential sites for artwork include the exterior west and/or southwest plaza, and the interior corridor and/or stairwell surfaces of the north wing. A budget of $158,000 is available for all related expenses including artist fees, fabrication, insurance, shipping, travel, installation, documentation, and other costs.

Eligibility: Resident US citizen or legal resident artists/artist teams. Utah artists are strongly encouraged to apply. Art Selection Committee members, staff and Board of Utah Arts & Museums, and VCBO Architects are not eligible. Submissions must include a letter of interest (maximum three pages), up to six images of previous site-specific public work in JPEG format (1920 pixels maximum, 72 dpi, under 2MB), a document identifying each image with title, year, medium, and dimensions, and a professional resume in PDF format. Applications may be submitted online via www.callforentry.org or via USB flash drive. Deadline for receipt of materials is July 8, 2019 by 5 p.m. MDT. Finalists will be selected and interviewed on September 17, 2019. An honorarium will be offered to finalists to assist with proposal preparation and travel costs, which will be applied toward the final commission amount.
