About This Call

Use it Up, Wear it Out, Make it Do, Or Do Without: Lessons from our Grandmothers is a WEAD members' exhibition hosted at San Francisco Central Library's Jewett Gallery in celebration of Earth Day 2017. The title references a depression era adage taught by wise grandmothers and families in need. Selected art should focus on eco and cultural values of conservation, preservation and frugality. To protect animal and plant partners, humans and earth, it is essential we consume less and conserve resources.

The exhibition will feature text and image work curated by highly-respected gallerist Donna Seager. Accepted media includes 2-D wall work (image, image and text, calligraphy with maximum dimensions of 36" height and 36" width), books, and altered books (maximum 16 inches tall, 16 inches wide). WEAD (Women Eco Artists Dialog) is an international artists organization which focuses on ecological and social justice issues. The exhibit will honor WEAD's 20-year history in San Francisco, in anticipation of the 100th birthday of WEAD's co-founder Jo Hanson, San Francisco eco artist-activist.

The call is open to all current WEAD members. Non-members are welcome to join WEAD online at www.weadartists.org and become immediately eligible. There is no entry fee. Exhibition dates are April 8 to June 24, 2017, with a reception on April 9th. Artist notification is February 1, 2017. Work must be delivered March 6-10, 2017, ready-to-hang and framed with glass or plexi for works on paper. Work pick-up dates are June 28-30, 2017. Artists may ship work with pre-paid return shipping labels or deliver and pick-up their work.
