U.S. of Art: Reflections on 250 Years

For the nation's semiquincentennial, artists are invited to create work reflecting on their personal experiences as Americans and how they engage with the histories of their communities and families, and their hopes for the future. Artwork submitted will be reviewed by a panel who will curate an exhibition that reflects, celebrates, and maybe even reimagines what it means to be an American during the time of the 250th anniversary.

Entry deadline is May 24, 2026. Accepted artists will be notified on June 2. The exhibition runs July 3–26, 2026. Submissions should include 1 to 3 high-resolution images of original artwork created within the past two years. Entry fee is $10 ($5 for members). There are no size or media requirements or restrictions. All artwork must be original in design and personal execution; commercially made prints, giclees, or reproductions will not be considered.

Accepted artwork must be hand-delivered or shipped to The Delaplaine at 40 S. Carroll Street in Frederick, MD between June 22–28, 2026 during business hours (Monday–Saturday 9–5 pm, Sunday 11–5 pm). Two-dimensional wall-hanging work must be wired to professional standard and ready to hang; sawtooth hangers are not acceptable. Artwork will be insured from delivery through pickup.
