Upbringing

Upbringing is a juried exhibition at the Indiana University Kokomo Downtown Gallery. The theme pertains to the journey people endure while raising a child. Artists are invited to submit works inspired by their experiences of nurturing a child from conception to birth and beyond. Interpretations of this theme can include foster care, adoption, losing a child, surrogacy, motherhood, fatherhood, and other variations. The exhibition embodies the social stigmas, experiences, and realities of being a parent or raising a child. Alternative interpretations of this subject are welcome.

The exhibition is open to all artists over the age of 16 who reside in the United States. All fine art media are accepted including painting, drawing, sculpture, ceramics, printmaking, photography, collage, digital, and mixed media. All work must be original and completed in the last two years. Sculptures should not exceed 9 feet in height. Work will be selected from high-resolution (300dpi) jpeg images not exceeding 5MB. Submissions may include up to 6 images, 3 audio files, and 3 video files. There is no entry fee. Professional presentation is required: 2D artwork must be framed with secure hanging hardware, canvas sides and staples must be covered, and sculptures must be fully assembled and structurally sound with detailed installation instructions if necessary.

Entries are due by February 25, 2019. Artists will be notified on or before March 8, 2019. Artwork delivery is March 20-23, 2019 during gallery hours. The exhibition runs April 5-20, 2019, with an opening reception on April 5 from 5:30-9:00 p.m. Artwork pickup is April 24-27 or May 1-2, 2019 during gallery hours. Delivery and pickup are the artist's responsibility. Any work not picked up 30 days after the exhibition ends becomes the property of the gallery. Contact [email protected] with questions.
