About This Call
Sault Area Art Center offers residency opportunities for artists from around the world to pursue their creative process on the shores of Lake Superior or the St. Mary's River. The organization provides 4 residency opportunities between two different cabins: the Munuscong Mini Cabin (accommodates 1-2 people) and the Point Iroquois Beach Cabin (accommodates up to 3 people). Residencies range from 7-14 days and are available at the following dates: Munuscong cabin offers a 14-day stay between June 9-July 5, 2025; a 14-day stay between July 15-August 7, 2025; and an 11-day stay August 11-22, 2025. Point Iroquois Beach Cabin offers a 9-day stay September 8-17, 2025 and a 9-day stay October 19-28, 2025.
SAAC selects resident artists including photographers, visual artists, and writers. Applications are accepted from individuals, couples, and cohorts of up to three people (two people for the Munuscong cabin). Individuals may have one guest. Artists of all ethnicities, cultures, and experiences are encouraged to apply. Artists must be 18 years or older and worldwide artists are eligible.
During their residency, each artist must share their experience in one public program, demonstration, talk, workshop, or similar event at Sault Area Art Center (217 Ferris St, Sault Ste. Marie, MI). Each artist must contribute one original piece of work representative of their residency to the permanent collection of Sault Area Art Center. Donated pieces must be delivered within one year, framed, bound, or otherwise gallery ready. Application requirements include: photographers and visual artists submit 6-10 images; writers submit 2 short stories, poems, chapters, scenes, or essays (max 2,000 words); Resume/CV; Artist Statement; and Statement of Intent. Entry fee is $30. Submission deadline is July 31, 2025. Artists may be selected for opportunities before the deadline, and dates will be removed from the call as they are filled.
